Wash Care Guide
A saree well cared for can be worn for years and even passed down. Here's how to keep your Kora Woven drape looking its best.
Golden Rules for Every Saree
- Dry clean the first wash. This sets the colours and protects the fabric.
- Never wring or twist. Gently press water out with a towel instead.
- Dry in the shade. Direct sunlight fades colours and weakens fibres.
- Keep perfume and deodorant away. Spray them before you drape, and never directly on zari or silk.
- Air it out after wearing. Let the saree breathe for a few hours before folding it away.
Care by Fabric
Chiffon & Georgette (including silver chiffon and crepe chiffon)
- Dry clean recommended.
- If needed, hand wash separately in cold water with a mild liquid detergent. Do not soak for long.
- Iron on low heat, or steam, with a thin cotton cloth in between.
Organza & Kora Silk
- Dry clean only.
- Iron on low heat from the reverse side. Organza creases sharply, so steaming works best.
Silk & Art Silk (including printed and Kalamkari silks)
- Dry clean only. Water can leave marks and dull the sheen.
- Iron on the silk setting from the reverse side.
Cotton & Handloom
- Dry clean or hand wash separately in cold water. Some colour bleeding in the first few washes is natural.
- A little starch after washing keeps handloom cotton crisp.
- Iron on medium-high heat while slightly damp.
Sarees with Zari, Embroidery or Embellishments
- Always dry clean.
- Iron from the reverse side and never directly on zari or embellishments.
- Store zari sarees with the zari folded inward to prevent tarnishing.
Storing Your Sarees
- Wrap each saree in a soft cotton or muslin cloth. Avoid plastic covers, which trap moisture.
- Refold every 2–3 months along different lines to prevent permanent creases and tears.
- Keep them in a cool, dry place. Use neem leaves or cedar balls instead of naphthalene, which can stain.
- Store silk and zari sarees separately from cotton.
